Well, the Nationals finish the first half at 39-50. 2009 record at the All-Star break....26-61. Much improved team this year. But improvements need to be made. Wish list for the trade deadline.
1.) 2nd baseman
2.) Outfield bat
3.) back up catcher
4.) Starting Pitcher
But even if they do not get those I think they will still be much better. I figure about 75 wins. If the pitching comes around and with a couple of moves, you could get 80-83 wins. This team is close to being a playoff contender, they just need a couple of more moves to get it.
Now for the fans....
The Nats facebook page put up a thing today asking the fans what they would change. A sampling....
Trade Clippard....fire Rizzo....Fire Riggleman....Fire the owners.... One guy wants to trade or release half the team!!!!
I just got to say. The people who commented on that facebook page are IDIOTS!!! Riggleman has done a good job and is a good baseball guy, just ask anyone in the business and they will tell you the same. Same goes for Rizzo. Trade Clippard???? Guy is in a funk happens to everyone. Get a clue! And as for the guy who wanted to trade half the team....you live in a fantasy land, get a clue and go become a fan of tennis because you have no clue how the game of baseball works.
To the Nationals, take a couple days off boys and come back and get them in the second half. Winning record in the 2nd half!!

Sometimes, (OK most times!!) baseball fans are idiots. They expect their players to be perfect and the other teams players to completely suck! How come when your guy does great you love him but the first time he screws something you hate him. Just take my Nationals. Yesterday Craig Stammen pitched. Craig pitched well, with the exception of one inning and he deserved to get a win. BUT some fans are stupid. One fan on a board posted in the first inning that Stammen was great and deserves to be in the rotation...in the third inning when Craig gave up three runs, this same fan is saying he sucks and should be released!! SERIOUSLY, pitchers give up runs!!! Do you think the fans in Texas were saying release Cliff Lee yesterday???? Give me a break, each team is full of professional baseball players who want to win, sometimes your guy will get them, sometimes they will get your guy THAT IS THE WAY IT IS!!! Stop beating the Nats up because they screw up sometimes. They are better and getting better the future looks good.
Ok, rant over. Nats are playing much better ball (6 W 6 L in last 12) I just get the feeling that this team is poised to make a second half run. No they will not make the playoffs but they will be much better than last year and I think they will not be last in the NL East (I think that falls to Florida.)

#5: Atilano
Long term I think this is what they would like to have....
#1: Strasburg
#2: Zimmerman
#3: Detwiler
#4: Stammen
#5: Atilano or Martis or Lannan
If they could have that rotation, they would have a pretty darn good set of pitchers. That being said, I do wish they would try and go get someone like Nolasco, Haren, or Oswald that would say a lot about what this team wants to be.

Well, another loss. This unfortunately could be a long losing streak with the team going to Atlanta.
Positives: Zimmerman looks like he may be coming out of his slump.
Atilano pitched really well.
Bernadina had a good game.
Negatives: Can not get clutch hits after the 4th inning
Clippard does not look good right now. Not hitting his spots.
More errors.
With that being said, they still have a chance of having 40 wins at the all star break AND there are still 90+ games left to play. If they can get themselves straightened out and back on track, maybe they can get close to .500 for the season.
Anything will be better the 59 wins!!
Oh and fans are still idiots. Just look at some of the post on facebook. It is hard to understand how "fans" can be so dumb!
Well, off to listen to some minor league baseball and then later catch the Dodgers game and a little Vin Scully and Charlie Steiner over the airwaves. There really isn't anything better than listening to a game on the radio.

Well, about 10 minutes from first pitch, Nationals vs. Orioles. Hopefully the Nats can get a win today. Sometimes being a Nats fan can be difficult and frustrating. 33-42....this team should have a better record, BUT when you have a lot of young players that is what you get.
I was struck yesterday by the insanity that is baseball fans. After the game yesterday when the team dropped a 6-5 decision after leading 5-0 some of the people that write messages on the team page or on facebook are completely NUTS!!! Some of them need to realize a few things.
1.) This is not a playoff team, they are too young and too many pitchers are hurt!
2.) They are much better than last year....didn't win the 33rd game last year until AUGUST!
3.) No Riggleman is not an idiot, listen to any baseball person in the league and they will tell you, he is a good manager and a good baseball man.
4.) Yes it would be nice to win a championship, but this team is coming off 2 seasons of 100+ losses, if they can win 80 games this year that would be sensational.
5.) No Strasburg will not leave because the team loses games, players don't do that, get a clue!
Well, I think I will stop ranting and get ready for the game.
